10-Woman Lakeside Ladies Stun Sunshine Queens in NWFL Championship Thriller

The race to gain promotion to the Premier League at the ongoing NWFL Championship play-off arrived at a frightening crescendo in Group B with a massive fight back victory for Lakeside Queens against Sunshine Queens in a Group B game played at the Ebedei Stadium in Sagamu.

The two teams tagged the favourites in the group have not disappointed since the beginning of the championship with both sides winning their first two games before today.

The first half came as a shock to Sunshine Queens as Lakeside Queens came into the game with a deviation from their usual tactics, opting for the long balls instead of putting the balls on the ground. This unsettled the Akure team but they bounced back in the 2nd half, matching their opponents tactics for tactics, a development which soon led to the first goal of the match, as Precious Edewor latched unto a long ball and clinically lobbed it over the goalkeeper for a Sunshine Queens opener.

Lakeside Queens quickly reverted to their more accustomed tactics, putting the ball on the ground and they equalized in no time with Dorothy Esiet beating the offside trap to score the equalizer.

When it was thought that the game was going to end at 1-1, 10-woman Lakeside Queens managed to come up with a beauty of a goal inside added time by Dorothy Esiet whose brace not only won the game for her side but also earned them a N500,000 winning bonus by proprietor, Hon Kunle Soname.

Lakeside Queens are now firmly at the top of Group B with 9 maximum points.
