Following their group-stage exits from the World Cup in Qatar, Mexican coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino has become the first casualty.
Mexico started their group campaign on a strong note playing a goalless draw against Poland but has to succumb to the firing power of the Argentines in the second game.
They defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 in the final group but weren’t enough to take them into the next round of the competition.
The gaffer was fired immediately after the game and the former Barcelona coach thanked the entire football federation in Mexico for their support.
“Since I got [to the Federation], I have worked with complete freedom and no interference from anyone. For that, I thank the President and the Sport Directors”, he said.
