Ademola Lookman Scores to end Nine-game scoreless run

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman ended a frustrating nine-game scoreless run for both club and country as he came off the bench to score Atalanta’s third goal in their 3-1 win over Cremonese on Saturday.

Having featured for just 45 minutes during the International break with Nigeria, the former Everton of England winger was named among the substitutes with striker Cyriel Dessers also named on the bench for the host.

Cremonese was by far the better side in the pitch of play in the opening half but found themselves behind just before the break as Marten de Roon pounced on a loose ball inside the box to fire home and give the visitors a 1-0 half-time lead.

Not happy with his side’s performance in the first half despite the lead, Gasperini introduced the duo of Boga and Lookman as they went in search of a killer goal.

However, it was the host who equalized just before the hour mark when Daniel Ciofani sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from 12 yards to make it 1-1 following a handball in the box.

But with 18 minutes left, Boga finished off a team move to make it 2-1 before another brilliant team move saw Boga find Ederson with the Brazilian turning provider for Lookman who fired home from close range deep into stoppage time and seal a 3-1 win.

The goal takes lookman’s league tally to 13, just one goal behind Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez who is second on 14 goals, with Victor Osimhen the overall leader with 21 league goals
