It was very shocking to watch the Nigerian team crash out of the tournament in the semi-final stage of the AFCON U20 tournament in Egypt.
The Junior Scorpions of Zambia, a tiny nation along the west coast Africa continue their impeccable form in the tournament with a dominant one nil victory of Nigeria.
The game was settled in the first half when a flick by a flying Eagles defender was diverted towards the path of the Gambia’s top striker who wasted no time in slotting past the unsettled Nigerian goalkeeper.
Despite taking the lead the Nigerian side possessed all through in the first half, mounting pressure on the Scorpions.
Nigeria came back in the second half to show more life in the game and the team’s efforts resulted in a penalty against the Gambians but Musa Abdullahi of Nigeria was unable to convert the spot kick with less than 10 minutes to the end of the game.
Nigeria continued with superb navigation on the pitch until the end of the game.
With this disappointing result, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria will now battle Tunisia in a bronze medal game.
