Alhaji Aliyu Bello has specially hailed the owner of FC Basira and Tanko Baba FC, two teams that are domiciled in Lafia the capital of Nasarawa State.
The Nasarawa State APC Secretary who also doubles as the Chairman Nasarawa State Football Association Normalization Committee was not encouraged by the numbers of teams based in Nasarawa State participating in the current NLO Youth League but hailed the two club owners for going out of their way to own clubs that have done well to engage youths within and outside the state.
“The numbers of teams from within the state playing in the various cadre of the Nigeria league is really discouraging because we are blessed with an abundance of players, take a look at the just concluded ALGON Cup, you won’t agree less”.
The soft spoken administrator went on a memory lane when he spoke about teams that existed within Lafia alone in the early 90s.
“Around 1996 alone before we became a state if I could remember, we had six teams in Lafia alone, they are Lafia Ambassadors, Lafia United, Lafia Scorpions, Water Co-Operation, Flying Arrows and they were all playing in various divisions of the Nigerian League reason why I will commend the owners of FC Basira and Tanko Baba FC for owning a team and engaging the youths and also playing very well too”.
Alhaji Aliyu Bello rounded up by encouraging more spirited individuals and corporate organizations to form a team to boost the footballing image of the state and return the state the it’s old glorious days.
