Zion FC, Ondo have thrown proceedings in Group B of the ongoing BetKing Ondo State Residents Football Tournament open following an impressive 2-1 win over NPFL All-Stars of Akure.
Sadiq Akinpelu opened scoring in the 17th minute to the surprise of the highly rated NPFL Stars.
Tope Oladele made it all square, equalizing for NPFL All-Stars fourteen minutes later.
With a minute left in the first half Niyi Oyeyemi restored Zion’s lead with a sweet strike, to make 2-1.
In the other tie, OSOPADEC FC, Igbokoda were pegged to a goalless draw by a gritty Idanre United side.
Coach Boyede Ogunderu of OSOPADEC expressed disappointment but remained optimistic of topping the group to qualify for Sunday’s final.
“It was a difficult match for my boys who showed resilience but I remain hopeful that we shall top the group.”
For the coach of Idanre United, Busayo Ogunyanmodi, there is all to play for despite a scoreless outing for his team in 180 minutes of action.
“I am disappointed that we have yet to record a goal in 180 minutes, however, I am impressed by the performance of Idanre United despite series of injuries which kept some of my players out of the game. I assure that those key players will return for the last game against Zion.”
The pre-season tournament continues today with the last round of games in Group A.
