CAFCC: Plateau United surrender 4-1 lead in Libya, knock out of the continent

The hope of Plateau United reaching the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup was dashed in Benghazi on Wednesday.

Plateau United defeated Al Akhdar of Libya 4-1 in the first leg of the playoffs round played at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

They arrived in Benghazi on Tuesday with the hope of reaching the group stage but it was never meant to be as they suffered a 3-0 defeat.

The home side dominated the game from the blast of the whistle and was able to peg back the Nigerian side.Despite the early pressure Plateau United was able to hold their own and ended the half goalless.

The Benghazi-based team proved too much for Plateau United in the second half as they scored twice halfway into the half.

They completed their comeback in the 94th minute as they edged out Plateau United.

The game ended 4-4 on aggregate but the Libyan club progressed to the group stage on an away goal rule.
