On a bright sunny Tuesday afternoon, when love was radiating and electrifying the horizon, a certain Chinazo Igwemmadu, an SS1 student of Christ The Way Secondary School, Nnewi, hugged all the positive headlines as the second edition of the All Secondary Schools Football Championship got underway at the Anglican Girls School pitch, Nnewi,Chinazo propelled her school to a flying start as the title holders made mincemeat of debutants, Queen of Angel Secondary School 8-0 in their opening clash.
The fair-skinned pacy forward grabbed double brace, opening scoring for her more experienced team 11 minutes after kick off.
On a day the heavens inspired her game with extra vigour, Chinazo doubled her team’s lead 11 mutes later, fetching a hat-trick on 25th minute before completing her double brace on 27th minute.
During the half,time Pep talk, the team’s coach reminded the players that he had earlier set a 10-0 target and that they must not fail to achieve that.
Thus, three minutes after the restart, Chioma Okonkwo scored the 5th goal after looping the ball beyond a harmless and straying Queen of Angels goalkeeper from 40 yards out.
The beauty of the goal attracted the fancy of tournament sponsor and APGA Candidate for Anambra House of Assembly for Nnewi North, Hon Peter Nwosu, who had just crossed the school gate and making his way to the VIP stand.
He instantly announced a scholarship to the Chioma for the beauty of her goal and as well to Chinazo for scoring four goals in a single match.
Amarachi Chikezie scored the 6th and 8th goals while Onyetube onyinye put her name on the scorers sheet with the 8th goal.
A total of 24 Schools drawn from Nnewi, Ekwusigo and Idemili LGAs are taking part in this year’s edition of the championship.
This comprises of 16 male secondary schools and eight (8) girls Secondary schools.
“We’re gradually expanding the scope of the Championship, hence the inclusion of schools from Ekwusigo and Ojoto in Idemili LGAs”, organisers said.
“But unfortunately, most of the schools outside of Nnewi could not turn as a result of logistic reasons”, the organisers added.
