In the spirit of the easter celebration, the Ekiti State Sports Circle has reiterated the need for the governor of the state to put in place measures that will hasten rapid sports development.
In a statement issued by the group through it’s convener, Qozeem Oladapo in Ado Ekiti on Good Friday while noting that the governor has showed impressive commitment to sports development since his assumption of office however stressed that more spirited and strategic efforts are needed to actualize the vision.
The Sports Circle being a group of Sports Stakeholders in Ekiti State urged the recently inaugurated Appointment Committee to nominate genuine Sports inclined and passionate individuals with proven track record and antecedent to take charge of the proposed State Sports Commission adding that failure to appoint a visionary, committed, passionate and dogged sports administrator would drag the vision and efforts of the governor backward.
The group also urged governor Oyebanji to look into the Sports Development Trust Fund which was set up by the immediate past administration in 2021 saying the Trust Fund has not recorded any reasonable achievement for which it was set up till date.
It expressed optimism that the government of Mr Biodun Oyebanji would accord the deserved attention to sports unlike previous administrations that only paid lip service to genuine development of the sector.
On the recent attainment of number one position in African ranking of tennis players by Ekiti born Seun Ogunsakin, the Sports Circle congratulated Ekiti State Goverment and people of the State on the feat urging the State goverment to support the budding player’s quest to represent Africa at the Wimbledon being the World biggest Tennis Championship.
It further urged the Ekiti State governor to fast track the fixing of the blown off roof at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado and also expedite action on the promise to construct an indoor Sports Hall at the stadium noting that such will take care of all indoor games which often fetch the state National and international medals.
The group also commended the governor for the release of cash reward for all the athletes who won medals and employment given to some medalists at the last National Sports Festival in Delta State.
It opined that Sports would witness an unprecedented development during BAO administration, if the governor could sustain the tempo and remain focused and purposeful.
