Terem Moffi ended his mini-goal drought on Saturday evening as OGC Nice defeated Rennes 2-1 in a French Ligue 1 encounter at the Allianz Riviera.

Prior to the visit of the Brittany club, the Lorient loanee had gone four games without finding the net – three in the league and one in the Europa Conference League.

Nice and Rennes headed into the break goalless but Moffi had chances to break the deadlock on two occasions but he could not direct his headers on target.

Three minutes into the second half, Gaetan Laborde opened the scoring with a shot from close range after he was teed up by Badredine Bouanani.

And in the 71st minute, Moffi doubled the home team’s advantage as he capitalized on a mistake by a Rennes defender, dribbled goalkeeper Steve Mandanda and slotted the ball into an empty net.

Rennes manager Bruno Genesio reacted to the goal by replacing France youth international of Nigerian descent Lesley Ugochukwu with Moroccan winger Ibrahim Salah.

Bourigeaud pulled one back for the visitors with twelve minutes left on the clock, assisted by Karl Toko Ekambi.

With seventeen goals to his name, Moffi is the sixth highest goalscorer in the French Ligue 1, behind Kylian Mbappe (23), Jonathan David (21), Alexandre Lacazette (20), Loïs Openda (18) and Folarin Balogun (18).

In the provisional standings, Nice are eighth with 51 points accumulated, four matches to the end of the 2022-2023 season.
