Fun As MMGS Celebrates 69th Inter-house Sports Competition

As part of efforts to groom future leaders,Manuwa Memorial grammar School, Iju-odo has organized its 69th inter-house sports competition, Sportgister.com.ng reports.

Founded in 1954, MMGS’ 69th inter-house sports competition was the talk of the town as it combined Sports with cultural display to entertain guests and preserve people’s mores.

It is not common among post-primary schools in Nigeria in recent times in inter-house sports competition which from time immemorial,remained the reservoirs for discovery, nurturing and grooming athletes for national and international championships.

At the end of the competition,Abodi House emerged champions with 173 points.

In overall results made available to our correspondent, Amapetu house
clinched second position with 169 points.

Olugbo house placed third with 156 points while Wilson house finished fourth with 136 points

The duo of Agagu and Rebuja houses finished fifth and sixth positions with 104 and 84 points respectively.

Speaking at the event, the principal of Manuwa Memorial Grammar School, Mr Taye Akinkoye, described the competition as a demonstration of the school’s commitment to raising all-around individuals.

“This inter-house is a celebration of the activities of champions, it is indeed a core aspect of the mission and vision of our organization,” the principal said. “We are committed to bringing up a total child.”

He noted that the competition would also enable the participating students to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship

He commended the old students for restoring the lost glory of the school via infrastructural and academic interventions

He however urged parents to imbibe reading culture in their children.

He equally called on government to devote more funds to schools in order to stop further infrastructure decays.

Dignitaries who graced the event include the School PTA chairman Chief Olowogboye, Ikoya grammar School principal Mr Adetuwo,his Morubodo college counterpart Mr Olanusi, Comprehensive high school, Ilutitun principal Mr Wole Omosule and many others.
