Gov. Oyebanji Secures Nigeria Women’s Second Tier League Slot For Ekiti Queens F.C

His Excellency Governor Biodun Oyebanji has again set the pace in sports by sanctioning the acquisition of a slot in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL-Championship).

It’s the first time that the state female football team, Ekiti Queens FC will be competing in the NWFL- Championship.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mrs Tola Faseluka who gave the information in Ado Ekiti said one of Nigeria’s Privately owned Female Teams sold the NWFL-Championship slot to Ekiti Queens FC, adding that the official transfer of the slot has been completed by officials of both teams.

Mrs Faseluka who was excited with the development commended the Governor of Ekiti state, His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji and his wife, Her Excellency Dr (Mrs) Olayemi Oyebanji for taking Sports to an unprecedented height.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Management of Ekiti Queens Football Club, we appreciate the Governor of Ekiti State, and the First Lady of Ekiti state for securing this slot for the club”

“Ekiti Queens shall be a business minded club that will focus on discovering new raw talents within and around Ekiti state with a view to marketing the football talents to the global football.

The Permanent Secretary informed the Club’s Media Unit that there are existing young talented female footballers that will be retained in the team while more potential stars will be employed to beef up Ekiti Queens FC.

The members of the Technical crew of Ekiti Queens Football club also appreciated the gesture of Governor Oyebanji and his wife describing it as a great achievement for the present administration.

“We have been dreaming of this for long and we have no doubt that the 2023 NWFL-Championship will indeed be a year to be reckoned with as we shall continue to prepare to triumph in the Championship.”

The Nigeria Women Football League – Championship is the country’s second tier Football League same as the Nigeria National League – NNL for men where Ekiti United FC currently plies it’s soccer trade.

It’s the first time in the history of Ekiti State that the State Female football team will contest with top teams in the NWFL-Championship as football enthusiasts in Ekiti State would enjoy top rated female football actions forthwith.

Some of the teams in the NWFL-Championship are Sunshine Queens, Kaduna Queens, Dreams star ladies among others.

There are three levels of Women Football League in Nigeria namely Premiership, Championship and Nationwide.
