Ahead of the 2022/23 Nigeria Women Football League Championship, Owerri based side Imo Striker Queens FC are confident of booking one of the ticket to the Nigeria Women Premier League
Imo Striker who are the champion of the Nigeria Women Football Nation Wide League in their first season during the 2022 season believed they have what it takes to grab one of the available ticket to the top flight of the Nigeria Women League
Reacting to the tournament billed for Friday 7th to Friday 14th July, 2023 in Ijebu Ode, Coach of the team, Nelly Orisakwe expressed readiness on the part of her team
According to her ” Imo Striker Queens FC is fully ready just like every other teams who have registered for this championship. ” We are aware of the competition from other teams going into this tournament, but one thing is certain, we are not going to Ijebu Ode to make up numbers. We are going there to fight for the ticket to the Nigeria Women Premier League.”
When asked if there is pressure on the team being the champion of the Nation Wide a feast achieved in their first appearance in women football. She responded by saying” No Pressure”. ” We are not under any pressure. Every teams going into this tournament has a chance to pick the tickets. We respect every other teams but we are not scared of any of them, not even the big names. “
” Football is a 90 minutes game, it’s either you win, draw or loose. The organizers should just make it a level playing ground for everyone. Women Football is growing faster in Nigeria and we will continue to give our best to ensure our football gets to it higher target. She concluded
Imo Striker Queens FC won the last edition of the Nigeria Women Nation Wide League in their first outing in Women Football. Also, they won the 2023 Sheroes Cup Preseason Tournament organized for Championship teams in Abuja, and will be looking forward to another experience in the Championship
