Kai Havertz scores as Chelsea beat Crystal Palace to end winless Premier League run

Graham Potter claimed a crucial win in a Premier League London derby at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

New signing Mykhaylo Mudryk watched on from the stands and was presented to fans at half-time after Chelsea beat Arsenal to a sensational £89million transfer on Saturday, with heartfelt tributes also paid to Gianluca Vialli in the club’s first home match since the Italian legend’s sad passing from cancer earlier this month.

Potter was already battling to save his job after three straight defeats and Chelsea’s worst top-flight run since 1996, making five changes from the derby loss at Fulham including a debut for £35m arrival Benoit Badiashile in defence. And that approach just about paid off, with Kai Havertz rising to net the only goal of the game four minutes after the hour mark.

The Blues have now won all of the last 12 meetings between these capital rivals, with Palace bang out of form after a fourth defeat in five league matches.
