Naija Super 8 : Atule scores brace as Lobi Stars beat Akwa United 2-0 go top in Group B

Lobi Stars produced an impressive performance securing their place in the semi Finals of the Naija Super 8 tournament.

The match, held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos saw the Bala Abubakar side picked up a comfortable 2-0 victory over Akwa United, in the final Group B encounter.

Lobi Stars took the lead in the 15 minutes, through their talisman Joseph Atule, who slotted home a delightful cross by Waheed Adebayo to put the pride of Benue 1-0 ahead.

Before he doubled the lead 2-0, after he capitalized on a defensive mixed up with two Akwa United defenders, to strike the ball into the back of the net as the Bala Abubakar side went into the half time break with a 2-0 lead.

However, Fatai Osho made three quickly changes as he introduced Osoba Kabir, Osimaga Duke and Ebuka Anthony to replaced Uche Collins, Yusuf Sadeeq and Etim Mathew before the restart of the second half.

Lobi Stars had a clear opportunity to double their lead further when Atule close range effort just went over the crossbar with Akwa United goalkeeper, Godgift Elkanah made a late minute saved in the 53 minutes.

Akwa United couldn’t find a way back into the game as Lobi Stars went ahead to secured their second victory of the tournament and finished top in Group B log with seven points. While Akwa United finished in second placed on six points.

The semi finals of the tournament will commence on Friday, with Lobi Stars and Akwa United expecting to face Two of the three teams in Group A, Sporting Lagos, Katsina United and Remo Stars, whose fate is yet to be decided.
