Naija Super 8 : Ogunribide on target as Remo Stars beat Enyimba Int’l 2-1 in Group A opener

Remo Stars continued on their impressive form as they secured a late victory with a 2-1 win over NPFL champions Enyimba International, in the Naija Super 8 tournament Group A opener, on Friday Evening, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

The Sky Blue Stars took the lead in the 21 minutes through Issac James, who scored on his debut with a brilliance strike, when he overpowered Enyimba defender Adekunle Adeleke to slotted it home.

However, the people’s Elephant responded quickly in the 25 minutes when Chisom Okereke scored with a superb volley inside the box, beaten off Bamkole Kayode to levelled it 1-1 as both teams went into the half time break with the game tied 1-1.

In the second half, Remo Stars coach, Daniel Ogunmodede made his first substitution of the game when he brought in Tochukwu Michael, who joined the side on a free transfer is a replacement for Sodiq Ismail.

However, the introduction of Tochukwu brought a different vibes in the Remo Stars midfield as he made a quickly impact when he gave a quickly through pass to Issac James, who caught in a lovely pass to Seun Ogunribide to slotted it home and made it 2-1 in the 56 minutes.

Remo Stars defence, who had the likes of Victor Collins, Fabian Nworie and Junior Nduka, kept it cool at the back to helped the side to secured a vital three points to open the tournament with a 2-1 win.

For the Finidi George led side, it could be a big eye opener for the league champions, who came into the game with the mindset putting up a good performance but it couldn’t resulted in the way they planned.

Remo Stars with the victory moves top in Group A log with three points, and will take on Katsina United, on Sunday, in Matchday 2 Group A encounter while Enyimba Int’l will tackle NPFL newly promoted side Sporting Lagos.
