Nigerian players abroad over the weekend: Iheanacho, Osimhen, Oshoala, Toni Payne on target

In the Premier League, Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho scored and bagged an assist as Leicester City hammered Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Iheanacho set up James Maddison who put Leicester 2-1 ahead in the 25th minute before scoring the third goal himself in the stoppage time of the first half, and was voted Leicester City’s Man of the Match.

It was Iheanacho’s third goal in his last three games in all competitions for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The 26-year-old has recorded five goals with four assists in all competitions this season.His compatriot Wilfred Ndidi was also in action as he was introduced in the 69th minute.

Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Dennis came on as a substitute for Nottingham Forest in the 56th minute in their 2-0 defeat to Fulham on Saturday. The Nigerian international, who was making his 11th appearance has only recorded one goal and one assist this season.

Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo were in action for Southampton in their 2-1 defeat at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. Onuachu, who was making his home debut for the Saints was replaced in the 74th minute.

Joe Aribo also replaced Carlos Alcaraz in the 79th minute.In Italy, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored in six consecutive league games as he was on target again in Napoli’s 3-0 win over Cremonese on Sunday.

Osimhen doubled Napoli’s lead in the 64th minute after Kvicha Kvaratskhelia had put them infront in the first half.The 24-year-old still leads the goal scorer chat with 17 goals in 18 league league appearances for Luciano Spalletti’s side this season.

The victory put the Parthenopeans 16 points clear at the top of the table.Super Eagles winger, Ademola Lookman had an assist for Atalanta in their 2-0 away win over Lazio in Saturday’s Serie A game.

The 25-year-old assisted Rasmus Hojlund for the second goal in the 65th minute as Atalanta went 2-0 up.The Nigerian international who was making his 21st league appearance, has netted 12 goals and bagged four assists this season.

In Germany, Nigeria defender Kevin Akpoguma was in action for the entire duration of the game as Hoffenheim fell to a 3-1 home defeat against Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga this season. The 27-year-old has made 16 league appearances for Hoffenheim this season.

In Holland, Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey came off the bench to provide an assist in AFC Ajax’s 3-1 over Waalwijk on Sunday.

The 23-year-old came on as a second half substitute and assisted Jurrien Timber for Ajax’s second goal.

Bassey has recorded one goal with five assists in all competitions this season.In Morocco, Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo was in action for Al Hilal but could not prevent them from losing 5-3 to Real Madrid, in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup in Rabat, Morocco on Saturday.

Ighalo was introduced with four minutes left in the game.In Japan, Peter Utaka scored Ventforet Kofu’s only goal in their 2- 1 defeat against Yokohama F Marinos in the Japanese Super Cup final on Saturday.

In Spain, Super Falcons forward Toni Payne scored a brace as Sevilla Women cruised to a 3-0 away league win at Real Sociedad Women.

The 27-year-old was on target in the 42nd and 56th minutes to put Sevilla 2-0 up.Asisat Oshoala was also on target in Barcelona Femení’s 4-0 win over Alaves on Saturday.

Oshoala put the league leaders infront in the 33rd minute, and the former Arsenal and Liverpool striker has now scored in eight consecutive league matches.

The 28-year-old has scored 18 goals after 19 matches this season.

Her compatriot, Osinachi Ohale was also in action in the game for Alaves. She scored an own goal to put Barcelona 2-0 up in the 39th minute.

In the Belgian Women’s Super League, Super Falcons striker, Roosa Funmilayo Ariyo rounded up the scoring as Club Brugge made light work of White Star Woluwe with a 3-0 victory.
