NNL: Three Injured As Smart City Supporters Attack Match Officials In Ogun

By Sedara Philip

It was free for all on Sunday as supporters of Smart City FC of Lagos state descended heavily on officials officiating the match between Gateway United at the Dipo Dina International stadium, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state

Crisis ensued when the centre referee sent off a Smart City’s Daniel Adejokun for shoving Gateway United forward Mustapha Olajide in the 41st minute in matchday 5 of the Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign.

Not contented with the match official’s decision, Smart City supporters invaded the field of play and disrupted the match and harassed the match officials.

It took the efforts of the police reinforcement who shot into the air to scare away the angry away protesters.

Journalists and other spectators scampered for safety.

Recall that, the Gateway United were moved away from their home ground at MKO Abiola International stadium in Abeokuta to the Ijebu-Ode stadium by the LMC due to poor condition of the home pitch.

The match officials were thereafter conveyed to State Hospital, Ijebu-Ode where they received medical treatment.

The match was later abandoned at the 41st minutes following the fracas.
