The NPFL kicked-off as expected on Sunday with a South-southern derby between Akwa United and Bendel Insurance at the Nest of Champions, Uyo.
The newcomers, Bendel Insurance, ensured their first game in the top flight league with a 2-0 rampage on Akwa United.
The hosts firstly were offensive in the first 30 minutes of the game but Bendel Insurance goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie efficiently denied goal-bound attempts.
However, the visitors broke the deadlock in the 39th minute following a tap-in from Imade Osehenkhoe, a graduate of Uniben and former HIFL star.
Imade’s goal then became the first goal scored in the new NPFL season and was 16 minutes earlier than Qudus Akanni’s who did the same for Remo Stars last season against MFM.
Meanwhile, the visitors added the second goal after goalkeeper, Godsgift Elkanah’s punch met Ismael Seriki who fired in the net in the 43rd minute.
The second half then saw Akwa United seeking for an equaliser but Goalkeeper Amas denied all the attempts from the hosts.
