Rivers United were held to a 2-2 draw by Bayelsa United in a thrilling rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 7 fixture at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Wednesday.
The Pride of Rivers dominated the early exchanges, with Ifeanyi Francis coming so close to his debut goal with a header that went over the bar.
Chiamaka Madu made the early dominance count when he scored a suckerpunch of a goal in the 39th minute finishing off a team move with Joseph Onoja’s assist.
The host upped the tempo at the start of the second half and just six minutes after the restart they had their reward as Daniel Ekpo dinked home a beautiful finish.
Suddenly it was game on, and the Creek boys kept pouring forward as they went in search of another but it was the Pride of Rivers that went ahead again for the second time in the game as Malachi Ohawume chipped into the top corner after further fine combination work from the excellent Liberian internationals Albert Korvah and Gibson Mark Theo.
Bayelsa United’s forward Robert Mizo brought the scores level again with a low finish one minute into stoppage time.
It had been fantastic entertainment, but in the end a point apiece was probably a fair result from a breathless afternoon’s work.
