Despite playing 1-1 draw in a highly tensed weather of the NWFL Week 12 match between Adamawa Queens and Edo Queens FC on Wednesday evening at the Atiku Abubarka Stadium Fufore Adamawa State, the highly rated NWFL Edo Queens club side in Nigeria are still very much in contention for the Super Six slot.
The club will continue to show commitment not minding thier present position in the group.
The players have put yesterdays’ game behind their attention and focus is on next week home game which is a must win.
It is important to know that both teams came into the match with enthusiasm and high mentality of smiling home with three maximum points.
The Moses Aduku-led Queens showed their superiority over the host team when Edo Queens’ dangling attacker Yemisi Samuel, opened scoring barely 16 minutes of play through a stylish header from a mistake from Adamawa defenders beating goal keeper Oloro Fatima of Adamawa Queens to it.
Though the early opener by Edo Queens did not stop the aggressiveness of the host team as they wasted no time in netting in an equalizer in 18 minutes assist from Mercy Joseph to Moses Farkiram , who quickly flip the ball over Edo Queens goalkeepers’ head Obidinma Nkiruka
bringing score line to 1-1.
The equalizer by the home side was applauded by the fans bringing life into the home side and increasing support for them.
But that didn’t stop the ladies from Benin from lunching more attack up front and piling pressure upon pressure but goalkeeper Oloro Fatima of Adamawa Queens was doing all the save for her side thereby frustrating Edo Queens efforts.
Edo Queens had several opportunities of rapping up the game in the first half but wasting over six scoring chances.
The first 45 minutes ended on a score- line of 1-1as both teams retire into the dressing room for break.
On the resumption of the second half, Edo Queens Captain Suliat Abideen, was actually not happy with her teammates as she reminded them of the need for a win in the game. Few minutes into the second half, Moses Aduku made some changes to beef up the attacking line-up but changes yielded no positive result. To also guard against conceding late goals following the aggressive nature of attacking force of the host team, Omowumi Oshobukola was replaced by Osakpolor Efe to put more force into the defense line.
All the efforts made by Edo Queens to hurt their opponent towards the last few minutes of the match lacked rhythm and yielded no result.
The game ended 1-1 with jubilation on the side of the host team because they never expected they could force the Red-hot girls from the Heart beat State to a draw.
Walking out of the pitch, you could see anger and disappointment on the faces of Edo Queens players and officials as Adamawa Queens succeeded in smiling home with a point denying Edo Queens FC of the driver’s seat in Group B.
With this away draw against Adamawa Queens FC, Edo Queens is now third on the table in Group B with 19 points behind FC Robo, who has 19 points with more goals, while Confluence Queens FC of Lokoja are top with 20 points. Edo Queens will host Ibom Angels next week Wednesday in Benin-City.
Though regrettable, the players have promised to up their game and be more focus ensuring that they leave no stone unturned in the remaining two league games. The quest to secure Super Six ticket and also becoming NWFL champions for the 2022/23 season is very much achievable.
