Oyo State Chess Association in collaboration with the Oyo State Sports Council, Ibadan has concluded all arrangements to organize a one day School Chess Championship tournament on Saturday 21st January, 2023 at the Indoor Games Hall of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The Coordinator of the Competition. Mr Iredele Ogunbayo, who is also the chairman of the Oyo State Chess Association made this disclosure today in Ibadan.
According to MR. Ogunbayo, the first edition of the competition in 2022 recorded the participation of over 240 students from twenty schools across the state adding that the on_line registration is available for schools that are interested in partaking in the year 2023, competition.
The Oyo State Commissioner for youth and sport, Asiwaju Seun Fakorede is billed to declare the tournament Open.
According to the spokes man of the Oyo State Chess Association, MR Iredele Trophies will be presented to the schools that emerge as winners while medals will be given to the victorious students adding that Certificate of Participation will be offered to all chess players that featured in the one day tournament.
Mr Iredele disclosed further that the students that will participate in the schools Competition will be opportuned to improve their proficiency and dexterity and also interact with players from different Schools.
He opined further that the competition will afford the young players that excelled with outstanding performances to be selected for national and international competitions.
The Chairman of Oyo Chess Association stated further that accomplished and renowned chess players will be in attendance adding that MR. Adeyemi , the Vice President International Federation (FIDE) and Prince Adeyinka Adewole, Vice President Nigeria Chess Federation (N.C.F) amongst others are expected to encourage the young upcoming players during the Competition.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council Honourable Gbenga Adewusi “Arole” and the General Manager of the Council, MR Gboyega Makinde will be in attendance to present gift to the winners at the tournament.
