One Rocket Pips Warri Wolves As Nigeria National League kickstarts

The Nigeria Second divison resumes action on Saturday for 2022/2023 Football SeasonThe Akwa Ibom side, FC One Rocket, defeated Warri Wolves in Nigeria’s 2nd division, the Nigeria National League (NNL) season opener.

One Rocket defeated the Warri Wolves 2-1 at the newly-built Eket Township Stadium.

The league’s governing body had already previously disclosed the groups for the Super-abridged league before the draws for the games were made on Tuesday.

Goodnews Paul scored the first goal of the 2022-2023 season in the 45th minute for the hosts before Okere Shedrach leveled for the visitors in the 89th minute.

Other FixturesIn the opening weekend of the second tier, a heavyweight match between Crown FC and Gateway United will take place.Four-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champion Kano Pillars will start their journey when they travel to Sokoto United.

Smart City will host Sporting Lagos in the Lagos derby, and Vandrezzer FC will be in Omoku as guests of Go-Round FCAdamawa United and Yobe Stars will lock horns while the Nigerian nationwide league champion, Madiba FC, hosts Ekiti United.

At the completion of the regular season, a playoff event will be held to determine the four clubs, with 43 teams vying for the four available NPFL promotion tickets.
