In continuation of its build-up for the fast-approaching football season, seven-time Nigeria league champions, Rangers International F.C was on Saturday, November 19, 2022, held to a goalless draw by a determined, Akwa United F.C in a pre-season friendly fixture at the Awka City Stadium.

The ‘Promise Keepers’ were the quicker off the block after the referee signaled the start of hostilities with Leonard Ugochukwu, Ifeanyi Ogba, and Friday Ubong dictating the pace in the first quarter of an hour. Still, the Rangers midfield trio of Naziru Auwalu, Chukwudi Nwaodu, and Emmanuel Charles soon took dominance of proceedings to the delight of the watching crowd that included Anambra state F.A chairman, Gen. Chikelue Iloenyosi.

Despite dominating in the middle of the pack, the ‘Flying Antelopes’ lone ranger upfront, Inemesit Sunday, could not find the right key to unlock the very tight defense of the visitors led by the duo of Denis Nya and Anthony Anioke but on two occasions he broke through but met an alert Jean Efela in goal for the Uyo side a difficult nut to crack.

The introduction of Ejike Uzoenyi and Michael Ibeh for Chidiebere Nwobodo and Chukwudi Nwaodu at the start of the second stanza brought a spark into the front line of the host and Julius Ikechukwu’s long-range shoot on 52 minutes was expertly beaten out by Jean Efela.

Opportunities came for both sides to break the deadlock towards the end of proceedings but Jean Efela for the visitors and Emeka Nwabulu for the host lived up to the billings to ensure that the match produced no goal.

Rangers will continue its close camping program with more games lined up for the next three days with another top-of-the-bill fixture against Lobi Stars scheduled for Tuesday, November 22, 2022, in Awka
