The French Ligue 1 has recorded an alarming 34 red cards after only a handful of game weeks in the 2022/23 campaign. Over the weekend, Nice player Jean-Clair Todibo received the fastest red card in Ligue 1 history, which added to the unwanted disciplinary record in the Ligue 1.

His red card came after nine seconds, beating the previous record held by Maxime Spano’s red card for Toulouse, which came after 40 seconds.

Furthermore, since Opta started recording red card stats, the 11 red cards brandished in gameweek three in the Ligue 1 were the most in a single week.

In terms of red cards, no other league comes close to the Ligue 1’s 34 so far Spain’s La Liga comes in second with the highest number of top flight red cards, with 20 players now already sent for early showers this season.

The Serie A comes in third with 15 red cards after the first six games of the campaign, while the Bundesliga has seen 12 red cards heading into the international break.

In the Premier League, the latest red card came last weekend when Nathan Collins was sent off for a dangerous high boot on Jack Grealish.
