By Sedara Philip

Super Eagles ace Victor Osimhen missed the chance to add to his tally in the Capocannoniere race as Napoli suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Monza.

Biancorossi continued their impressive season when they hosted the champions at Brianteo Stadium. They scored in either half and kept the high-scoring team and their deadly attacker at bay.

Napoli have the Serie A title wrapped up already, but as we reported earlier, Osimhen is still in the race for the top scorer award and stood a chance to increase his tally against menos, Monza.

However, the Nigerian striker was limited to only one shot on target in the entirety of proceedings that started with the visitors on top.

Monza soon played their way into the game, initiating attacks of their own. The hosts’ efforts were soon rewarded when Pessina put Dany Mota through on goal in the 18th minute, and the midfielder made no mistake sending the ball past Pierluigi Gollini.

Napoli had a long period of dominance with wave after wave of attacks, but Michele was up to the task, earning all three points for his team.

The win takes Monza to eighth place on the league table, while Napoli have seen their maximum points possible drop to

Andrea Petagna made it two about 10 minutes into the second half, capitalising on poor defending by the hosts.

Osimhen had a brilliant all-round game, and although he did not score, he created three chances for his teammates, all of which were frustrated by the brilliant goalkeeping of Michele Di Gregorio.
