Sporting Lagos made a remarkable statement after they defeated Remo Stars 4-2 on penalties, to be crowned champions of the Naija Super 8 tournament.
The Newly promoted NPFL side continued from where they stopped during the group stage of the tournament when they took life felt like hell for Remo Stars midfielders, Dayo Ojo, Qudus Akanni and Jide Fatokun who were in the middle of the park for the Daniel Ogunmodede side, in what could be the most watched game as there was full capacity, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
The first half was a more interesting aspect of the game as the Paul Offor side clearly dominated the ball possession but couldn’t broke down the Remo Stars defence as both sides went into the half time break with the game tied goalless.
Before the restart of the second half, Daniel Ogunmodede made a quickly substitution when he brought in former Shooting Stars Star Sikiru Alimi to replaced Togolese Forward Frank Kwame in other to gives the front line a different spark. But, however it was the Paul Offor side took broke the deadlock, in the 54 minutes after Aliu Saluwudeen was in the right place at the right time to strike home a close volley after Remo Stars Bankole Kayode made a late minute saved to denied Jonathan Alukwu before the rebound went straight to Saluwudeen home slotted it home easily as the Sporting Lagos in the stadium went over the mood with their celebration.
However, there was a shocking incidence that occurred, in the 86 minutes, when Remo Stars thought that they have leveled the scoreline 1-1 but was cancelled offside which made the game to be played after Remo Stars Players protested.
Before, substitute Adams Olamilekan, who came into the game with a different energy scored from a delightful team move after he slotted home a cross from Sodiq Ismail ,in the 90+5 minutes as the game went into penalty shootout.
Before Sporting Lagos made a historical moment with a 4-2 penalties shootout win over Remo Stars to crowned Naija Super 8 Champions.
By winning the title Naija Super 8 title Sporting Lagos will be going home with a sum of 25 million naira prize money while Remo Stars, who finished runner-up will go home with Nine million naira.
