SWAN, Ekiti State Sensitizes Students On Effective Combination of Sports and Education in Commemoration of 59th SWAN Anniversary

Members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Ekiti state chapter were on Wednesday treated to a warm reception by the students and management of one of the foremost secondary schools in Ekiti state, Christ School, Ado Ekiti.

SWAN members led by the chairman, Qozeem Oladapo had visited the school to sensitize the students on the need to effectively combine education with sports without one affecting the other.

The principal of Christ School, Venerable Ebenezer Osho who was elated to receive the SWAN members described the visit as heartwarming saying the positive role that members of SWAN play in moulding the lives of the young generation could not be emphasized.

He prayed for SWAN and it’s executive urging members of the public especially goverment to keep supporting them in a bid to make them continue to give their best as sports writers.

The opening remarks was from the secretary of SWAN, Bisi Ogunleye who hinted the school authority and students about the purpose of the visit .

With reference to some famous footballers and sportsmen and women who have excelled academically, Oladapo said talents without education would suffer setback.

He also cited names of some footballers like Romelu Lukaku,Andres Iniesta, Juan Mata, Fikayo Tomori, Frank Lampard among others who obtained different university degrees despite the fame and wealth garnered through sports.

Other SWAN Executive and members including the treasurer, Kehinde Durodola, Welfare officer, Wale Omoyeni and members like Rafiu Famobio and Suberu Opeyemi all complemented the submission of the chairman .

There was also question and answer session as the students were informed about some rising young Ekiti born sportsmen and women like Tosin Oribamise(table tennis) and Seun Ogunsakin (tennis) who are effectively combining education and sports.

Over 200 students and several teachers were assembled to participate in the SWAN program in Ekiti state held on Wednesday February 1 in Commemoration of the 59th anniversary of SWAN which was established in 1964.

There were gifts for some outstanding students that participated in the program.
