Arsenal firmly established their lead at the top of Women’s Champions League Group C with a comfortable victory over Swiss champions Zurich at Emirates Stadium.

Jordan Nobbs scored a stunning volley to break the deadlock in the first half before Lina Hurtig flicked a header over the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

A thumping strike from Seraina Piubel gave Zurich hope in the 76th minute but Hurtig doubled her tally to seal victory for Arsenal just two minutes later.Jonas Eidevall’s side have made the perfect start to their European campaign with two wins from two games.

Last week’s impressive 5-1 victory over holders Lyon put Arsenal in a strong position in their group and this victory put them two points clear of second-placed Juventus, who drew 1-1 with Lyon earlier on Thursday. However, Arsenal manager Eidevall said “nothing is won yet”.”I am happy with the result but we have only played two games.

There is nothing won yet. We are happy with that but there are a lot of tough games left,” he added.”It doesn’t matter [about the draw between Juventus and Lyon]. It doesn’t change anything. Things can turn out in a lot of different ways. We will see where we end up.”
