
Zion Warriors of Ondo have emerged as the champions of the maiden Bet9ja Ondo state football league.
The match decided at Akure Sports complex saw the Ondo-based side pipped their opponents 3-2 on penalties after one goal apiece in match duration.
An end-to-end encounter which saw both sides blowing away chances.
The first chance fell to barrack Eagles’ Dauda Sulaiman whose effort sailed over the bar.
Joseph Prince of Warriors almost broke the deadlock with a thumping header which was brilliant saved by Barrack Eagles’ goalie John Sunday.
The opener came at the thirty-eight minutes Akinpelumi Oluwatobi failed to capitalize on defensive mix-up to put warriors ahead.
Warriors held on the advantage till halftime.
Upon resumption of the second half, Eagles piled pressure on Warriors’ defence in a bid to restore parity.
However, Warriors’ skipper indecisive moment proved costly as Omoja Lewis slotted home the leveller.
Both sides couldn’t be separated after minutes as the encounter ended one goal apiece.
Zion Warriors won the pulsating penalties shootout 3-2 to emerge as champions.
The match had in attendance Ondo FA chairman Otunba Dele Ajayi, representatives of Bet9ja,FA chairmen,State league committee members amongst others.
The 2022 Ondo state football league being sponsored by Bet9ja had 70 participants with teams spread across the three senatorial districts of the state.
