I Believe I Should Be in England Squad – Dier Asserts

Eric Dier, the Bayern Munich defender, believes he is playing the “best football of my career” and should still be part of the England squad. Dier has not played for England since their World Cup last-16 win over Senegal in December 2022. The 30-year-old joined Bayern Munich in January after almost 10 years at Tottenham. Dier has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Bayern and is part of their squad for Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

Dier made his England debut in 2015 and has played at two World Cups and Euro 2016. He has earned 49 caps, 37 of them as part of the starting line-up. Dier has been in career-best form since Antonio Conte came to manage Tottenham in 2021 and has carried it on since joining Bayern Munich. Dier believes he is nowhere near the end of his prime and imagines that this will be his prime.

Dier wants to be a part of the England set-up and believes that he should be a part of it, that he’s that level of a player. He has proven to be a shrewd signing for Bayern Munich and he is certainly worthy of an England call-up. Dier’s versatility makes him a valuable asset as he can play in both midfield and defense. Dier’s inclusion in the England squad would provide Gareth Southgate with a player who can play in multiple positions.
